Tom Connell was born in Reading in 1959. He attended the Berkshire College of Art and Design from 1977. Upon leaving he trained as a graphic designer and worked in this industry for several years before becoming a full time painter, devoting much of his time to producing highly realistic gouache and pencil pictures of British railway subjects, his true passion.
In 1986 Tom Connell was approached by a well known illustrator’s agent in London who was keen to represent him as it was considered that his style would prove popular in the advertising and publishing industries. This proved to be true as he has worked on many major advertising campaigns and publications through the years.
Tom has now settled into working mainly for children’s publishing as he enjoys the vibrancy and variety of the subject matter. Current published projects include working on Dr.Who.
He now has the time to return to his beloved painting and these days his subject matter is mainly equestrian and the medium has changed to acrylics.
