John Haskins
Originals by John Haskins
John Haskins was born in Bermondsey, London.
After graduating from art college with his City and Guilds Diploma in Illustration, he joined industry, specialising in illustrating and depicting the technical products of such industrial giants as British Aerospace, Hawker Siddley Aviation, Rolls Royce and NASA.
He rose to become Chief Illustrator and eventually ran his own publishing company, but he gave up this security to devote his full attention to his first love, Landscape painting.
Working from his countryside home and studio, his paintings evoke an atmosphere of nostalgic charm for seasonal rural activity, drawn closely from a life-long attention to detail. He captures the afternoon stillness of a river-bank, the rustle and nod of the cornfield’s edge or the buzz of bees in the hedgerows.
Sometimes, using his two daughters as models, he allows us to re-enter the childhood world of blackberry picking, games in the meadows, the feel of bare feet on wet sand or just that sheer luxury of doing nothing more strenuous than wandering through the lanes and bridleways of the English countryside.
In recent years, this talented artist has become well known and respected by a world-wide public as well as his fellow artists, and his work is found in many private collections and galleries in five continents.
Successful exhibitions and one-man shows have been held in London, Frankfurt, Paris, Pennsylvania, Edinburgh, Los Angeles, Melbourne, Sydney and others.
