Douglas Hoffman was born in Baltimore in 1945. After Grade and High School, he worked at a local department store as a window dresser and gained much information on colour design. His appreciation for art, and encouragement by his co-workers led him to attempt making a career for himself in the art world.
On enrolling at Maryland Institute College of Art, he was inspired by his tutors, learning about anatomy, paint layering and techniques used by the Old Masters.
Douglas Hoffman graduated and found representation for his work in Washington D.C. where he sold everything he could complete. Later one of his tutors introduced him to the New York art scene, which allowed him to expand his subject matter.
Successful one man shows followed with a sell-out on his first show.He went on to learn and master the art of lithography, a technique that is quite challenging.
The work of Douglas Hoffman continues to grow – the female form being a favourite. He has received many awards and prizes for his work, and is in numerous private and public collections.
